I started to experience salivary gland stones in early 2016.
The hardest part of this intrusive object in my body were: pain, inability to chew, to properly talk, swollen throat from time to time ,…
Early treatment consisted of antibiotics and painkillers, providing some relief from time to time, until the stone was identified. It was located in my salivary gland.
Advices were that I cannot carry on forever with antibiotics and had to tackle the problem at its root.
The stone had to be taken out,
The first attempt was with a General Surgeon. Unfortunately, the procedure was unsuccessful.
My family doctor, together with an inner circle of friends with medical backgrounds, advised me to look for a specialist surgeon, with the right set of tools, to execute this procedure. In summary an ENT Surgeon Specialist
My research led me to Dr Lisa Burnell, at Morningside Clinic in Sandton – Johannesburg area (South Africa).
The first consultation was a diagnosis, a request for CT scan, followed by the available options.
Once the less invasive option was selected, the next visit was the surgery procedure.
All I can remember was when I had the anaesthesia injected, and the time I was awake. That was forty minutes.
Four hours later I was discharged from the hospital,
In the evening I was able to eat normally, without any complaints.
The third visit was a follow up, a validation of the success of the procedure.
